Customize/overwrite RSS feed excerpt <description> element in Wordpress

By default, the excerpt (or <description>) element of your feed will populate with the first few hundred words of your post.  If you'd like to use your own text, you can do this by using native Wordpress functionality.  Here is how.

1) First, let's make sure your Post Editor screen option will display the Excerpt input field. Open your post in Edit mode and expand the Screen Options menu. 




2) Make sure Excerpt Box is checked.




3) Then scroll down below your post to the Excerpt input field and add your own text, save your post and voilà.






 

Wordpress

  1. Show "full text" in your feed
  2. Customize/overwrite RSS feed excerpt <description> element in Wordpress
  3. Using SB RSS Feed Plus to add featured images to your feed (WordPress)
  4. Remove "The post ... appeared first on ..."
  5. New posts are not visible on feed (or delayed)
